The one thing that always helps me in remembering a certain commercial or advertising campaign is the use of humor in the ad. Whether it's print, TV, digital, etc., the use of humor in advertising is what an ad stick with me for years.

I think that the one thing which will keep the ad in my long-term memory is its ability to emotionally connect with me. If the music emotionally speaks to me, then that is it, if the characters in the ad, the story line or even if the tag line hits an emotional chord with me. I'm to remember the ad for a very long time.

The ONE thing that makes an ads immortal is the marketer's Holy Grail. without any sugar coating I will say 'It does not exist.'

The purpose of ads are not to be memorable for a very long time. its purpose based on objective are either to catapult the sales process by increasing awareness, instigating sales and reassure its customers that their purchase decision was right.  Being remembered for a long time is only a by-product.

 

FOCUS on the PRODUCT not on the by-product. a designer or creative director is an artist but a commercial artist whose artwork has a set objective to be achieved and on achievement of the objective it becomes a masterpiece. The truth is very few ads have rightly earned the title of being a Masterpiece.

Even the greatest artists like Leonardo and Michelangelo had employers and set directions on what their employer wanted (i.e. like the purpose of your ads) .

 

There are many things that makes an ads memorable (but not necessarily a masterpiece) an exceptionally "good "ads or an exceptionally "bad" one.

 

NOTE: Not all "good" ads would have achieved its set Objectives and NOT all "bad' ads would have failed to achieve its objectives.

An advertising campaign is remembered for a long time if it is humorous or has a great story and music that connects an individual emotionally.

Think out side the box, to be frank there is no single answer, depending on the type of product, different strategies are implemented. Advertisers mostly try to tap in with the "human" side of their audience, in other words their emotional and psychological Ads. In this day and age Ads are not just shown on the TV, the same Ads are also promoted online and Ads that have potential to be viral are the ones that perform the best. Ads that manage to do that become Ads that are remembered for a long time.

One thing that will definitely help me remember an advetisement for a long time is if it leads an impression.  When an ad or marketing campaign reaches someone emotionally, wether it is funny or heart warming, people will remember that and continue to talk about it long after the commerical is gone.

An advert with a lot of humour or comedy will stick in people's mind for longer. An advert should also be reapeted now and then and correct visuals should be used for it to make sense, a great story can also make an advert easy to remember.
