Linux & other open source falvour is suitable for back end because it is not easy to use for end user although all services are available now and stable. Windows can be use by any end user and they feel comfortable to use it that is a beauty of windows and reason of success. I agreed Linux is powerful OS but those for IT professionals or technical user who want to understand the technology. Winodws is adopting linux or unix structure in new OS if you notice.
The most important feature is that you don't have to restart the Linux system if any program or software update is done where as in windows, you have to restart the system for the changes to take effect
Windows GUI is very helpful for administrators with low experience in the Linux and Unix OSs.
So you can use windows servers to introduce Directory Services, file and Print sharing easily without administration overhead and save your team members time in such tasks.
Also the Integration between Linux/Unix based systems will be easier and more productive.
Windows can be completely eliminated from your Environment, from providing services to access those services.
To answer the question, there is no need for windows if you have linux,
any of the services can be provided with LINUX.
