Why do managers confuse between the functions of sales and marketing? And why do most of them give little importance to marketing?

There is a very fine line between the Marketing and Sales function. Where as Marketing is the strategy, sales is the implementation of the same. Managers get confused because the companies themselves most of the time do not have clarity on the difference between the two functional areas.

Marketing is the brain and sales is the mussels.

Managers usually still rely on one entity to drive and close deals. Whereas Marketing places and executes a strategy to find the lead, warm it up and hand it over to Sales that eventually lock and close the deal. It is crucial that managers are able to differentiate between both roles.
