Our assessment of the success depends on the extent of our knowledge of the depths and details of the properties and methods of the pros and cons of all the details of the project are working to create it.
In general, 3 main points can help you to judge whether the project is successful or not
1. Budget
2. Schedule
3. Meeting Customer's expectation
In my opinion, 3rd point is the most important because by finishing high priority tasks successfully, you will be able to extend time to finish remaining tasks in case you delay to deliver them or simply you can get new projects because you take care of stakeholders needs and make them happy.
Every project has different evaluation criteria so to evaluate your project, you should evaluate it depending on the variables and the environment of the project.
Before any given project starts, it would be prudent to lay down the following: Objectives, Schedule, and Budget. Most of the time, a key indicator of the success of a project would be how well it met all three criteria, which is very measurable.
Having said that, I always make sure that I discuss the known Obstacles with my team--there will always be unexpected ones popping up in the entire course of the project. This gives everyone an idea of the degree of difficulty in achieving success. This serves to define how big or how little of a success it is.

I would say three things will determine the success of any project;
1) Meeting the customer's expectations
2)It is done within budget
3)It is done within schedule
The further the project moves from these three things, the more it takes from the project success.
