All of the previous mentioned answers are all correct and valid.

The role of any CCTV operator is to monitor and report on any breaches in Security whether committed by your own staff, as well as any unauthorized personnel.

 

On the reverse side what they should not do is also as in important.

This list is not exhaustive.

 

Fall asleep whilst on duty.

Not reporting any offence as he might personally know or recognise the offender.

Misusing the pan and Zoom facility of the CCTV equipment for personal amusement.

The duty of CCTV operator is to thoroughly monitor the sensitive locations where all cameras are installed, if he found any mishap then he immediately contact the security police etc.
