Nice question,

If you are programming for a scientific community you have to understand science language used by this community which is mathematics, for example if you are programming a robot arm motion you have to know some vector analysis. But if you are programming applications which don´t need more than standard mathematical operations, then a basic mathematical background for programmer are enough.

Programming is based on logic what's finally mathematics When you program an object to move, its trajectory is a mathematical equation when you need to calculate the complexity of your program you need also mathematics all in programming is about mathematics
