Actually, you should want "customer focus" to affect EVERY area of the business. It should not necessarily be the ONLY focus, but remember that the only reason for a company to exist is to create a satisfied customer. If this is done properly, revenue and profitability should grow continually through repeat business and customer satisfaction. We want this to be contagious throughout the company! As a former IBMer, I've held this belief most of my life and seen it create success after success....in the form of mutually beneficial, long-term customer relationships that led to innovation, new business creation and success for IBM and our customers.I now live by it in my own company (for 21 years) and it still works!

Customer focus NEEDS to affect ALL functions of ALL businesses .Having said that, what remains for the Management team to ensure is that the affect is positive and each function/ domain is unambiguously clear of what is their contribution to the customer centric business focus and its outcome not only on the bottom line but also on Business development and personal growth.
