The first thing that process improvement requires is deep analytical knowledge of the process!

First step is to get a layout of the process, its processing modules and stops, and categorize each activity into one of the following:

1) Value Addition

2) Waiting for process

3) Movement

4) Transport

5) Storage

This would be a detailed activity that would go into detail and dig down hidden losses (Movement, Unnecessary Transport, Waiting).

Once the losses are identified, ideas can be developed about how to reduce those losses and improve the over all process.

Following LEAN methodology can identify many losses in the process and give fruitful results.
