I think in this case ( overseas  ) Skype is the best way to contact because I can deal directly with employees to deliver  a right message , exchange views and responding to inquiries in a clear way . not to mix things up

It is depend on message that manager need to send

Skype: when situation need discussion questions and answers with some added notes

E-mail: when manager wants to send instructions, new information, some modifications on daily work plan.

Answer to this question would vary based on following factors :

1. Nature of business/ Scale of the organisation (like companies in business support/ISMS systems/ client servicing with highly confidential data etc. uses ONLY the authorized communication channel ( like Cisco WebEx, Official Email etc.), but small or captive organisations may even be open to WhatsApp chat for official matters.

2. Employee geographical accessibility to the resources (For instance if an employee is somewhere in Africa with hardly stable internet line, company may prefer dropping an email).

3. Specific need of communication type (depends upon Urgency/ Level of confidentiality/ Client or Captive unit communication etc.).

Having mentioning all these most common option are almost as said by other colleagues :

1. Email

2. Skype

3. Phone

And the list goes on .......

Generally, Skype has been the tried and tested means of communication overseas and by most companies. However, it depends on the country or place where the employee is currently staying at especially when there is an internet stability issue. Email somehow would be the next option to contact the employees since everybody now I believe has their own email addresses and especially when you are not expecting for an urgent answer from them.

Skype is the best way to communicate people overseas as we cant see each other, speak and discuss every single detail as most of the companies using skype for the online business meetings
