Hi, i think both go hand in hand. To do anything, basics are required and diplomas or degrees are a must when it comes to basics. And then comes the hands-on experience which is again a must, to do a job faster and in a more reliable way. So both have their own importance which is quite logical.

Hands on experience is more valuable i.e. if you are a machine operator with experience but no diploma you can operate the machine because machine doesn't ask you about your diploma & vice versa

I believe both go hand in hand.

Certificates are required to fulfill a job criteria and you need it as a proof of your credibility.

But once you are in the job then your experience only will lead you to success.

I had a personal experience on this subject.

Earlier in my career, I had hands on experience of 3 years in my field but due to unavailability of proper certification I was not entertained.

Once I got my certification, I was selected at once.

Hands on should complement degrees, because nothing can ever replace experience. as the chinese proverb by confucious says " what i hear i forget, what i see i remember and what i do i understand".

hands-on experience is more valuable than the pieces of papers. But if you have both, that will be great.
