It is hard to give an answer to a general question like this because there is no general answer. It depends on the personality of the employee (is he/she introvert or extrovert), the personality of the manager, the culture in the department or even organization (a culture of equality or obedience) and also the habit of the country where you are. I noticed when I worked abroad that employees where far more compliant to the wishes of a manager then in my own country (Netherlands) where it is more a sport to challenge and be challenged. In short i found out that every situation differs and as HR Manager I had to be the referee many times in conflicts. And what is a difficult manager? Is it a critical person who wants to have things perfect or someone who is blaming everything on his employees? Better find the cause of this then adapting your behavior. Talking and be open helps best, could lead to firing people but at least no stress caused by doing what you don't want to do.........
Patience and performance. Better to communicate through emails so that you may have documented conversation.
Thank you for inviting me. The employee must politely make his point and not keep quiet if he sees something wrong.........................
Each person have a secret code, if you're smart you will know this code then you gonna control this difficult manager
Since you have already identified your boss is difficult, stay one step ahead always and document everything(you never know when it may come to use). Don't get intimidated, speak up and stand tall( don't crouch down in fear).
No one is always right. If such situation arises, the employee must be patient and conscious. He must not think the boss is always right. The employee should try to rectify his manager with wisdom and in a professional manner. Patience, perseverance and wisdom are the major weapons to fight in such situation.
Thank you for the invitation and I agree with colleagues subjected him with answers

Many great answers here, i support my colleagues answers
It is important to first know the definition of a "difficult manager". Sometimes, when one gets a tough boss who challenges him to meet performance expectations, the manager is termed as a difficult one to handle. According to me, being a manager is not an easy job, he has to do the dirty job of getting things done from the team. Yes, there are managers who can be very aggressive - the best way to deal with aggressive managers is to be assertive, thorough in your work, have proper reasoning for the questions he asks, and never get personal. Getting personal can be dangerous especially in a public forum. Focus should be on the idea/work that is being discussed and never on the person. Appreciate the person for a good idea but never insult someone for a bad idea. And learn to develop a good sense of humor, create a positive mood in the team by your presence, don't take things personal. Please understand, managers have to get work done and if you are smart, they will value you and cannot afford to lose you.
Thank you for invitation. Very good question. I agree with my colleagues answer.
