it is as simple as that , you push to solid objects toward each other and they try to overcome each other and if there is some weakness , they break along that otherwise they move upward , same in the case of mountain building process. mostly the mountain chains are develop alonge the continental vs continental convergent plate margin and when two blocks collides , the forces folds the rock strata and raise them higher and higher as the force is applied
