Yes, I agree with this statement. And this thing generally takes place in people due to jealousy, ego problem, arrogance and lack of respect for others. Generally these people can be anyone based on various factors, however mostly they are those who are striving go to higher positions and become leaders, but they are failing to do so.
Leadership will always starts within ourselves. It doesn’t entails about authority instead camaraderie. If the question is related to a position/appointment for becoming a leader, I don’t think you’re gonna hate the person unless otherwise he is not showing the value of leadership. To be a leader doesn't mean becoming a boss. A great leader will inculcate attitudes of followership that will start on him - not from the members, and will work collaborative and receptive to the ideas and views of the members and definitely imposed what is best for the group and benefit to everybody not for himself. Yes, you're gonna hate him if he will exercise his power and authoritative way of being a leader. Yes, you're gonna hate him if he will show a bossy type of a leader.
But if you have a productive, efficient and effective type of a leader and still you’re gonna hate him. The problem is already in YOU.
If the leader is not a model in his assignments, this may happen. Being a leader is not merely being in a prestegious position. He must work along with his team and support their efforts. He must be appretiative, reliable and humble.Otherwise he cannot gain the respect of his team.Thorough knowledge about the subject is also an essentiality.

Firstly, people do not hate you for becoming a leader but it is the skiill gaps, lack of proper temperment, personality, knowledge that arises in an individual makes a comparative colleague uncomfortable or disappointed.
Therefore, if I have to mention about individuals, it is always individuals that works in the same department or knowledge of equals.
Therefore almost everybody aspires to be a leader and it can be achieved politically or it can be achieved by knowledge and skills. It all relies on the business heads and how they view an individual and their interest to provide a leadership position to an individual who aspires to be a leader.
