It usually takes a few weeks to see how he works and wants things done. Ask a lot of questions and try to see it from his perspective (walking in his shoes for a mile) ... this gives you an idea what he wants, but also make him aware when things are not ethical (be very diplomatic about it)... Never do or say things that could hurt him/her ..this will haunt you in the long run... be honest and tell him if you been told by an other officer of the company to do something ... he might disagree, but it will gets him heads up and is not surprised by this person which may want to harm your boss.
I do not like being micro managed, but you have to let your boss manage you ... he will quit when he sees you are doing your job right
