Understanding what makes people using search engines that have a smaller market share. Is it defined by brand loyalty? Nostalgia of the past? IT requirement? Geographic and national obligation?
Thank you for inviting me.
Each has its own unique advantage over the others and delivers excellent results to its users.
For example Bing has excellent search tools such as explorer pane, quick previews and sentiment extraction.
while Google has tools such as street views and is known for giving solid search results.
Yahoo on the other hand is known to integrate its search results with strong networks, enabling you to get more than web search results.
some of the cons of google
• The social integration is only for Google social platforms and thus may be less helpful.
• A lot of applications may require a Google log in which may become more of a nuisance than an assist.
• Google’s picture search is not as refined as other image searches.
All three search engines are good and excel in a number of areas. Although Google has over 60% market share in the SE business, No particular search engine is superior over the other in all aspects.
So it is important to know which search engine is better suited for your different types of search and use it accordingly for better and efficient search result.
Because yahoo and Bing have almost greater market and most people have their Professional accounts from the very beginning so changing from yahoo, bing is not that much easy.
Some people are brand loyal. They like Microsoft so they stick with the Bing search engine. They use yahoo mail so they search on Yahoo search engine. Often they accept the Bing default on the Internet Explorer browser.
Most of the System used by User/Customers across the Globe has Windows in it and the Default Search Engine is either MSN/Bing.
People do not change the default browser and use it as it is. this drive a lot of potential customers/users from Bing/MSN/Yahoo.
Recently I came across some data sharing the market share of Google, Bing and Yahoo. Definitely, Google is a winner in all aspects globally but Bing is having fair percentage of market share in US.
Personally, I believe it is the Geographic and national obligation as US is having about 75% of google, Russia is about 56% and only 2-4% in China (google is banned there); where as in India, it is above 96%.
So Definitely it is Geographic and national obligation.
Its a question of personal preference and winning attributes, ever heard of one bird in the hand rather than two in the bush! Success is dependant on your abilty to find and apply a winning formula, not through what markets dictate or social media. Your use whatever means to achieve. And that could very well be Bing or Yahoo, Nostalgia or IT......
I am totally with you on this question as sometimes even I wonder why people would resort to Bing or Yahoo when Google is actually faster, more reliable and user friendly?
But yes, it is more about the geographical obligations and the various software obligations. Those people who are comfortable with using internet explorer end up using Bing anyways since the browser asks Bing to be the default search engine EVERY tenth second.
Yahoo provides you with more search results which can be relied upon, anything after the SECOND page of google is pretty much useless for any researcher.
