I really believe there are a massive differences between tablets and laptops.

Here are my reasons:

- Mobility:

Equal to both, although tablets are usually smaller. Tablets have the advantage of, in average, having better battery life than a laptop;

- Flexibility:

Laptop has more due to the wide application spectrum it has with normal OS's (Windows, Linux, Mac). In terms of Active Directory integration tablets are a nightmare;

- Scalability:

In an IT specialist's point of view, I would not change any Windows laptop for any tablet in the world, including microsoft surface that has windows. A tablet is exactly as you buy it - at the most you can add a32GB SD card to it. Maintenance for the Hardware is also easier in a standard laptop, so the stoppage time should be lower;

- Security and management:

Laptops either with Linux, Windows or MacOS are configurable and you can manage them with a simple click. Tablets are random, and people tend to take it personal when you try to "control" them with policies (the user always needs to be admin of the device). There is also the problem that everyone sees a tablet as a toy (or gadget) and a laptop as Company's property;

- Working on the device:

Laptops are more powerful and the feeling is much more professional than a tablet. I believe tablets are very good for making a net search, checking emails, etc. But when it comes to hard work, no one really wants to rely on a tablet to make that important report to the boss, or that important proposal for the client;

- True cost for the IT Infrastructure:

Tablets are cheap but, if you want to provide a proper secure and productive working tool to your employee, you need to spend a lot of money in other infrastructures (virtual machines, desktops, etc) so that you can provide the same kind of tool you have on a laptop.

For this, I believe it is not just a question of what you like the most, but a question of logic and for what do you want it for.
