YES, COUSTMER KNOW OF THE PRODUCT FEATURES
While not all items even in FMCG can be presented by sampling it is proven that consumers prefer to actually try / taste the given product before purchasing.
The most important issue with sampling is to ensure the efficiency of this tool so for this objective the location of the sampling, the timing, the way and quality of the presentation including the hostesses, etc. are considered the most important aspects.
Sampling is also often preferred by retailers as it can generate additional customer turnout and sales although these issues can usually generate the most controversy: retailers often prefer less busy periods while brand owners prefer prime spots and the widest possible reach.
Also important aspect that sometimes not addressed properly is that sampling can reach the best results when applied as part of a campaign and it is supported with POS materials, possibly with other advertisements and often by price promotions.
While this question seems simple it opens a vast arrays of important issues so I would prefer to discuss further specifics when I got more information about the actual product, brand, retailer or venue, campaign, etc. to give a proper insight.
