No one knows what your service organization needs better than you. However when service organizations request consultancy services, it means that they have exhausted all their inner resources to find solutions to a particular problem.

Good consultants are like detectives, who uses clues and base their finding on physical evidence (true data collection); they are usually armed with open mind, common sense, attention to details, fearless of asking the right questions, resourcefulness, and trust worthy.

First of all the consultant should understand the core values of the company, learn some insides of the market and the service.. and try not to continue the way the company's manager were thinking. It is very important to be able to think fresh  and bring something new, creative and doable.

First & foremost , consultant has to have a thorough knowledge of the service or the services provided by the organization with which consultant is associated .  Then comes the soft skills level consultant has to have to succeed as consultant.
