S-he has to do so as one of their responsibilities toward employees and teams. not as show off !
I guess to advice your subordinates is great but it should not be done for show off. Its only good for grooming and productivity.
A manager does not need to give advice or show off, he has to set objectives and lead by example to achieve them
Manger KPI covers managing the subordinates that does mean to support and manage them for which show off is not required. Team can be managed in assertive way rather than dominating and bossing around.
Yes, Manager has to demonstrate as good work practice & set the good example for their team which will give boost to their team to keep positive habit in day to day operation.
Manager example is just like "Army Commander" . As army commander will only gain respect and command in his unit if he has passed all levels of difficulties and has an understanding of all aspects.
So a manager should be able to advise his subordinates. There is no room and purpose of show off if he is a real manager.
Of course, one of the most important duties of the Director is to provide assistance and advice to staff on the basis of its experience in labor this helps staff better performance of the company as a whole.
Advice provided to employees should help the overall performance of the organisation so it shouldnt be for his personal and selfish benefit of showing off
