The main reason to choose channel partners would be their advantage of network access. Single point of communication (From Supplier Side), Product selling policy control, Quantity selling with less effort etc are other reasons.
I do believe that, the main reason is to be sure of big sales which give them the chance for manoeuvre in cost price against big quantities and consequently gain what they are believe as a "satisfied net income".
