Why are preachers of democracy creating barriers all over the world ?

Even forty  years ago South Asians did not need a visa to travel to the UK. If we  go to the middle ages traders from Arabia settled in Indias  west coast . During the British age many from India did settle in South Africa, Fiji, Mauritius, Guyana. But now democracy spreading throughout the world barriers have increased.

The main reason, of course, is because of the increase of population size.  During the  Middle Ages there were around 1.5 billion people whereas today there is 7 billion plus.  In addition, the expanse of cultures has bred a form of rebellion towards all things modern ( including democracy ) and NOT in tune with several cultures religious preferences that go ' directly by the book. '  Hence major problems have evolved and to keep people safe, democracies have had to tighten up their borders and practices.  Democracy isn't perfect, but its the only thing on our Pale Blue Dot that is close enough to the best.....Much Obliged...pwm..
