I think it means to work on the development of your employees as they are considered the main asset of your business. You can focus mainly on personal development, by preparing courses that is related to personal skills, like time management, anger management, emotional intelligence ..etc.

And on the other side their should be training related to the core of the business.

Human Development is like a Rainbow ;  Which cannot be lemmatized to the professional growth, only. It's an overall grooming of the personality traits, skill sets, behavior, loyalty, Trust, prosperity and so on.

So, we need to develop all aspects of human, not only according to the requirements of the business but also for the sake of society and humanity !!

Thanks for the invitation to give my view on this topic!

Human development as most of management books teach in both undergraduate and post graduate studies is the process of evolving the main capital of any organization that should be the human factor, in order to strengthen the bonding of the organization and achieve the best possible outcome in the long run, and that is always profit! Now in the real business world that may or may not be the same thing, simply because many organizations choose to change staff often , either because they want to cut expenses or because they need very highly skilled professionals to bring bigger numbers and or volumes of productivity.

My opinion is that the best way is somewhere in between. A company that invests in human development always has positive results, maybe not fast enough but it does. And by that I mean all the procedures from basic training to skilled training in higher levels and constant education of the staff, both in business techniques and in policy fulfillment. If a company has a strong policy then it cultivates its staff into this policy and therefore creates loyal partner-employee relation, instead of a salary driven professional. I am not against changes in the staff but I would strongly suggest that every single employee no matter the level, should take part in the human development so they blend in with the whole organization and its values.

This is a relevant and challenging question.  Yes I agree with Human development and its context to the Business world.  Having refrenced this I can expain in my own words as well:

Business and human development is inter-related.  It depends on factors of specialization and skills relevant to the area of work so that optimum benefits can be utilized to earn a profitable income in life expectancy as in Health is wealth and their performance which comes in with earning when one is healthy and each one earns and builds the country to a level known a s GDP, their education which is measured by adult literacy and the combined primary, secondary and tertiary enrolment in various colleges for further or higher studies.  Continuous Performance Deveopment plays an important role in business as the person learn he or she grows and becomes a person contributing to the business world. The persons background is also important as if a person comes from a business backed family they will thrive and strive to continue doing business for themselves becoming better individual with positive minds, further mentoring others into business.  Literacy and Numeracy helps in many ways to achieve business.  And QCF in various courses helps candidates to achieve their goals.  Universities are a part of business goals like a good course in Business studies level one and two with a further study in level 5 or 7 which backs up for good performance and helping others in tis field.  I have given reference websites in my answer for any furhter reading.  I hope this is helpful.

Human development definition in context within the business world:  A measurement of achievements by humans through advancement of knowledge, biological changes, habit formation or other criteria that displays changes over time. Understanding human development can help a company to manage personnel, market and sell products, or negotiate international trade.

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators, which are used to rank countries into four tiers of human development

Human development is defined as the process of enlarging people's freedoms and opportunities and improving their well-being. Human development is about the real freedom ordinary people have to decide who to be, what to do, and how to live. The human development concept was developed by economist Mahbub ul Haq.

Older versions of the HDI were calculated using the following indicators:

  1. Health - Life expectancy at birth.
  2. Education - measured by adult literacy and the combined primary, secondary and tertiary enrolment ratio.
  3. Income - measured by GDP per capita (PPP US$)

The Human Development Report (HDR) is an annual milestone published by the Human Development Report Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). As of 2013 the last decade saw convergence in human development indicators (HDI) values globally, although progress was uneven within and between regions.

Example:

NEW DELHI: India continued to rank low in the Human Development Index (HDI), but climbed five notches to the 130th rank in the latest UNDP report on account of rise in life expectancy and per capita income. India ranked 130 among 188 countries in 2014 in Human Development Report 2015 released on Monday by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The country's rank was 135 according to the 2014 report.

human development focuses on improving the lives people lead rather than assuming that economic growth will lead, automatically, to greater wellbeing for all. Income growth is seen as a means to development, rather than an end in itself.

human development is about giving people more freedom to live lives they value. In effect this means developing people’s abilities and giving them a chance to use them. For example, educating a girl would build her skills, but it is of little use if she is denied access to jobs, or does not have the right skills for the local labour market. Three foundations for human development are to live a long, healthy and creative life, to be knowledgeable, and to have access to resources needed for a decent standard of living. Many other things are important too, especially in helping to create the right conditions for human development, and some of these are in the table below. Once the basics of human development are achieved, they open up opportunities for progress in other aspects of life.
