Who would you prefer to hire, an applicant with superior intelligence but with less experience or an average applicant but experienced?

In today's dynamic market, it is critical to be innovative everyday to stay above the competition. I know my skills and expertise well. Give that I am an experienced professional and a good manager, I would hire a young but intelligent applicant over an experienced person. 

It is give or take situation, and I am willing to risk experience for fresh ideas
