Standard ACL information was capable of being cached in the various high-speed caches that the router supported, such as fast switching, autonomous switching, silicon switching, optimum switching, and others. But Extended IP ACL are much more flexible than standard ACL because their conditions can match on many more criteria in a packet or segment header.

Standard                                 ExtendedMatch Source (entire protocol)  Match Source & Destination (individual port)# 1-99, 1300-1999                    #100-199, 2000-2699Place close to dest                 Place close to source

ACL’s are used for traffic classification and well as traffic filtering.

Standard ACL checks source IP whenever any one wants to access the WAN or internet. Also, the list can take numbers(1-99 or 1300-1999) or it can be named.

While Extended ACL checks some more variables like (Source IP, Dest. IP, which application to access, etc....). Also, the list can take numbers(100-199 or 2000-2699) or it can be named.

standard ACL number range is 1-99 in standard ACL decision on the basis of only source ip

extended ACL number range is 100-199 iion .n extended ACL decision on the basis of source and destinat
