To ensure proper implementation a project leader has to involve the team even if the decision is taken unilaterally. Even if one is convinced of the correctness or appropriateness of the decison, it is advisible to place it before th team for a thorough discussion. one must remember that a project is and always remains a team effrot. Many minds put together are better equipped than a single mind or a brain!
If you as a leader do not involve th team in the decision making, you may not get the best participation from the team members. You have to ensure that the team owns the idea, else it may fall by the way side for want of enthusiastic and sincere particiaption from the team memebers.
there is no question of not implementing decisions trough team! if one is so autocratic one cannot hope to achieve significant heights! it is sinply not possible to carry on with a project without the involvement of team.
to be able to lead from the front and to be a successful project leader a consultative approach is needed. an idea need to be throughly analysed for its usefulness and completeness before implementation. Brain storming and threadbare discussion is a must to make the idea as fool proof as possible. one should let the team encourage to air the pros and cons. the team may come out with more than one idea. then by virtue of his position has project leader is free to take a final decision and its incumbent on him to explain why he or she has chosen a direction and an action and why an idea is rejected!
As such I am of the firm opinion that a consultative approach be adopted instead of an autoratic approach while making decisions. the team must be involved and must feel needed for the success of the project.
good luck
