Main role of Stirrups is to resist the shear forces & to hold the main reinforcement in position.

Stirrups are provided to hold the main reinforcement rebars together in an RCC structure. Stirrups are placed at proper intervals to beams and columns to prevent them from buckling. Also, they protect RCC structures from collapsing during seismic activities i.e. Earthquakes.

stirrups are used to tie the main bars of reinforcemts horizontal or vertical and to keep them aligned and to help in the tensile strenght of the concrete structure whether it is column , wall or beams.

Stirrups hold rebars together at certain intrevals in a beam or column to keep the columns or beams , they also provide an added strength to the structure during seismic activities that is the main purpose , they provide resistance to shear forces the structure might indure.

The main purpose of stirrups is to hold the vertical or horizontal main rebars at a firm position and avoid buckling/deformation/shear failure of column / beam. It also helps maintain and get constant clear cover along its length. It avoids the spreading of concrete towards outer side.

So as to resist shear forces that affect the section also to resist strong earthquakes
