The direct effects of lightning remain on the exterior of the plane , while the indirect effects can be avoided by shielding the interior of the plane. Sensitive equipments such as access doors and fuel filter caps are designed to withstand lightning. Moreover, modern aircrafts are made of less conductive composite materials instead of the common aluminum.
