multiprotocol lable switching(mpls) is a network mechanism in which packets flow on path lables instead of network address. it makes the traffic flow faster as it is protocol independent and does not need to look into routing table for the network address, it just redirect the packet based on the mpls lable.
When used with MPLS, the VPN feature allows several sites to interconnect transparently through a service provider's network.
