Safety meetings are important as we can disucss our concerns and problems with better understanding as almost all the stakeholders are present in such meetings. 

Secondly it depends on whether you are meeting with or without an agenda. Sometimes meetings are hold only to fulfil the formality and for such meetings it is said

"In meetings, minutes are made and hours are wasted"

Safety meeting is improtant to discuss the hazards that are identified at the work site, it a better communicaton tool where all the line management and site management can understand and control the hazards which are taking place at site.
