A practical experience is more important than a piece of paper that you put in your file or on the wall.

Whilst the certificate may provide academic knowledge and technical insight into procuremnt theories, they have a tendenecy to polarise peoples view and narrowing their capacity for creativity. A person with practical experience and appropriate training in people skills will always out perform the competitors.

I personally am of the view that Experience in procurement is more important than diplomas or certifications. However, this does in no way mean that we can give lower priority to diplomas or certifications. It is in fact a blend of he two which employers are always in search of.

Experience is more important than certifications; On the other hand certifications will coach you with the latest market trends, process, techniques that are required in any specific fields.  So having Experience and Certification will be a plus point and will make you top.

In short, yes. However, if you have both, all the better. Experience doesnt always mean best practice, so if you are able to attend a recognised course, then those companies that understand the industry will align your background and position better to their requirements.
