It is something that cannot be determined by country of origin,

There are many factors which affect the fuel economy irrespective of the automaker

1. DISPLACEMENT

2. WEIGHT

3,DRIVING STYLE

4.AGE OF VEHICLE

5.MAINTANENCE

ALL THE ABOVE FACTORS ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHILE TESTING FUEL ECONOMY.

You cant give a simple answer to it and it depends from car to car. I think both of them are doing a good job.

But if you ask about durability, I think japanese will still take the lead as they have been in the market a lot longer than korean companies have.

to be fair in my country the number of japanese companies are higher than that of korean. companies like Toyota Honda Nissan are the japanese company's in india while hyundai is the korean company in india. but recently an indian company Mahinra bought korean company Ssangyong. so I know a little of Ssangyong. but on my experience japanese companies are mostly used over korean companies. it is mainly due to their performa and long durability of the parts and the car. and when compared of fuel efficiency I think japanese cars have a slighter advantage over th korean ones. but when compared with indian car company maruthi and mahindra they have lesser fuel efficiency. india is a country where most people are obsessed over the mileage of their cars. so people tends to use maruthi vechicles more. and also the spare prts of maruthi is lesser compared tk that of toyota honda and hyundai.

little difference in the fuel efficiency,by the technology wise there is not much difference between Korean and Japan, what matters is the parts availability and the after service options

When referred to fuel efficient East is efficient and not the West. Japanese and Korean belong to East and aimed at Fuel Efficient and therefore light weight based. West usefully keen on safety and comfort and therefore material used in the vehicle causes weight and strong and Fuel Efficiency comes as last. Both American and European vehicles are comes under west. Korean follows the leader Japanese.
