nsurance coverage for export shipments is traditionally provided either through your airline, logistics specialist, freight forwarder or from an insurance company specializing in ocean and air cargo. There are three types of coverage commonly provided for export shipments: perils, broad-named perils, and all-risks.
When preparing for Export Documentation and Export Shipping, the exporter needs to be aware of packing, labeling, documentation, and insurance requirements. Because the goods are being shipped by unknown carriers to distant customers, the new exporter must be sure to follow all shipping requirements to help ensure that the merchandise is safe.
Because of the variety of considerations involved in the physical Export Documentation and Export Shipping process, most exporters, both new and experienced, rely on an international freight forwarder to perform these services.
I would suggest contacting one of local Insurance Brokers to arrange this. Marsh or AON come to mind, but it would depend on the size of your operation. They will be able to advise you on the information you need to provide to the insurance companies to get cover for your shipment and the range of premiums individual companies may charge you. They are also likely to have special conditions negotiated with the insurance companies so it would be more cost efficient to work through them in the long run. If you do choose to use a broker, make sure you choose one that would handle claims for you as well.
Hope this helps,
Anna
