Chemist here.

Mass is the amount of matter in an object. It is an intrinsic property that does not regardless of location, temperature and other physical factors.

Volume is the space occupied by matter. It may change depending on the temperature, pressure and other factors.

One gram of steam will always be one gram of steam whether its mass is measured in the US, the moon, or in orbit. Its volume, however, will change depending on the temperature, amount of pressure exerted on it or the volume of its container.
