I would respectfully disagree with the first answer. In my opinion, it is best to start with a top company. Top companies provide top resources for their staff even though it is not immediately obvious or available. It is also likely that you will be expected to work harder/longer hours, but there will be amazing opportunities to meet really brilliant people along the way, which you will not have a chance to learn from in a mediocre company.

Additionally, having a top ranking company on your CV will open doors for you in your career.

It's a difficult choice though we there could be more development potential at a mediocre company, but without more information it's difficult to judge that.
