What is the difference between a circuit breaker and a GFCI?

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter Circuit Breaker GFCI CB it is one type of the circuit breakers, and it used usually to power GFCI outlet, and GFCI outlet used near the water source like toilet and kitchen.
The Circuit Breaker will turn the circuit off when there is an overload current.
The GFCI will turn the circuit off when there is an overload current and when there is a current leak.
The GFCI monitors the current going to the Load and compares it to the current coming from the Load.
If there is any difference between the two, the GFCI will turn the circuit off.
The GFCI is very sensitive.
It will trip when there is only a4 to6 milliamp difference between the current going out and the current coming back.

CB is for overload or short circuit detection.While GFCI detects any ground ( leakage faults/path).

3- GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) يطلق عليه GFCI فى المواصفات الأمريكيه كما يطلق عليه RCCD (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) فى المواصفات البريطانية أو الإنجليزية وفكرة عمله كالتالى: نحن جميعا نعلم أن التيار الخارج من أى مصدر كهربى لابد أن يعود مرة أخرى إلى المصدر خلال الدائرة الكهربية المغلقة وبنفس قيمته عند الخروج.
جهاز الGFCI هو جهاز حماية كهربية يتم تركيبه بحيث يقيس فرق التيار الخارج من المصدر والعائد مرة أخرى إليه وإذا أحس بفرق فى التيار يعتبر أن هذا الفرق قد فقد فى صعق شخص كهربيا ويقوم بفتح الدائرة الكهربية فورا وقطع التيار.
طبقا للمواصفات الأمريكية يتم تظبيط الGFCI بحيث يفصل عند فرق تيار5 ملى أمبير وفى مدة زمنية1/40 من الثانية (0,025 ثانية) أى لحظيا
