Throughout my career I have encountered both effective and ineffective leaders. The common trait amongst those who demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, is the rare but valuable trait known as, empathy. While education and experience may rank high, it in no way speaks to an individual's capacity to communicate understanding by placing oneself in another person's position. Whether it be the employee or the client, showing empathy is likely to foster dedication and loyalty, and is directly related to improved work performance which ultimately drives results.
