listening because it is a better way of learning
I often rely on extensive reading for pleasure when I get time, but the careful choice of the reading material should depend on your current level and interest. 1- Reading helps acquire new vocabulary plus developing the reading skills in general. 2- Linking new vocabulary to your background knowledge and exposing yourself to the target language in various meaningful contexts often help you retain what you learn, and by exposure and deliberate learning, you can achieve success in foreign language learning. 3- Listening consolidates learning, so unless you know about 90% of what you’re listening to, there is no benefit of listening because comprehension is key to language acquisition. 4- Speaking is often hard to master because of its spontaneity and the involved effort in automatic responses, bit you can increase your fluency through taking risks in speaking to your friends in the target language, listening extensively to your favorite shows, and even writing what you usually say before saying it helps sometimes. 5- Writing is an organized activity that also consolidates what you learn overtime, as it is a production from memory, and in order to write better, a range of appropriate vocabulary and grammar is required. It is true that writing is a time-consuming, but its benefits are worth the time and effort.
