Social media with clients YES in order to make some kind of promotion for our products - services, BUT not for other kind of communications especially that company has HOT LINE for such things.

BUT for employees NO! unless HR team need to use Skype to make an interview with candidates.

First, I want to thank mr Obaid ur Rehman for the invitation to share my view.

Now as a manager I would definitely allow the HR department to use all means of communication for the recruiting process as long they fully disclose to the prospect candidate or current employee the reason of all communication through social media. Otherwise any use of public profile without the consent of the person of interest would violate the privacy laws.

In general, today more and more companies use social platforms and media for all kinds of purposes.

If I understood well the question, it was about the HR reaching customers also through social media. Now I can fully understand and encourage this for employees and or candidates but HR has no reason to contact clients or prospect customers.

The contact of clients is a duty of the sales department and or the service or operations department depending on the type of company. For these departments I would also fully encourage the use of social media again with the use of the most professional and efficient manner.

Clients communication through social media

  • It’s forbidden to communicate with existing or prospected clients unless through customer care and sales departments because they are well trained for that.
  • They may advice clients to communicate through sales and CRM channels by forwarding their contacts to them.

Employee communication through social media

  • Its more recommended to discuss business issues through closed groups not public.

Social Media is the trend but I would go for a "partly YES"

If HR team will cascade information about events, holidays, promotions then it would be a-OK. But if they use it to communicate with clients and employees in a business-perspective, then NO. Privacy is always a key factor that needs to be considered in every company. Also, it would be very informal if your clients will just recieve for example a message in IG or WhatsApp - inviting them to go to a special event; of course they would think how unbecoming and unprofessional your HR team are.

yes. Social media has become overly popular among every age group, from 18 to 80. It would be good for them to work and fun on the same page.

Yes, on today's world its useful and helpful to use the social media as a platform to communicate with the clients and employees. The main benefit is that from single to multi sharing the information.
