These are some of the ways to prevent ransomware attack

1. Keep users informed on Security issues, example - users training, advise not to open email attachment from unknown sender or if they are not expecting them.

2. Deploy Endpoint Security solutions, for example, antivirus, antimalware, etc. and keep them up to date

3. Always install the latest OS Security updates and other patch all applications used by the company.

4. Segment the network, restrict/tighten security for network wired and wireless access for guest users, install Next Generation Firewall, tighter FW policy, tighten URL filtering and Web Application Filtering.

5. More can be done :)  Cheers!

Users Awareness is the first security layer to focus on. Being aware of downloading files from only trusted and known sources, is the first technique to fight not only this type of attacks, but also any other type of viruses.

Then, patching servers to close vulnerabilities which could allow such attacks to succeed. Updating workstations regularly is also a good approach to prevent such attacks from spreading over the network. Last, ensuring latest deployment of Antivirus signatures and performing regular IT Audits is a good practice to reduce such attacks.
