There is a lot of positive sides of having a journalism degree. It helps in academic career in journalism. In journalistic practice, a person with a degree knows the basic principles and procedures in journalism which gives him/her a strong priviledge in the efficiency of work. This definitely gives an asset when applying for an opening in any media organisation.

However journalism is also a unique skill and entails certain passion and capacities that are not necessarily taught in schools but are acquired in practice. Hence a person without a journalistic degree but passion for journalism can also excel in this job, while a graduate of journalism but who cannot take the hardshps of the job, will definitely fail. Apart of skills, the journalistic profession requires a lot of self discipline, self time organisation and an ability to be ready at any moment to deliver breaking news or a story. Though many journalists do have office hours, their work often consumes different timings around the day. The latter reality is cmmunicated in schools but in practice, not everyone can stand to this challenge.
