What is the best translation pricing method, per word or per page?

For example, some may price their work per word and get paid for how many words there are in the end document. Others get paid per page, i.e. for how many pages they have done.

Hi. Eid Mubarak. As Ahmed mentioned earlier, pricing by page is better but the number of words should be for the source text not the finished. However, almost all like pricing by page. If you get 6 to10 dollars for an A -4 size paper with about400 words, it is OK.

Translation pricing per word is the best and most fair for both translator and customer, you count the number of words in the finished translated document and divide by150 or200, depending on words per page type you or your company adopt. This is useful because it resolve the issues of  font size and page format which are problematic in pricing per page for sometimes you translate a single page into4 or even5 pages, and possibly two pages in one page. Regards, Ahmed.

Per word is more precise than per page, otherwise you have to put an average for the number of words per page.

Hi!

This depends.

If you are the "seller" of the service, or the company, you would need to gain, so do it per word, but do so within legal business pricing.

Now, if you are the company and you outsource it, per page, of course, to cut on the price.

Last, as the "buyer" of the service, then you would wish to find a seller that would provide you with a cheaper rate, whether it is by word or by page.

I  haven't head of pricing translation per word and I never had this pricing. The usual and general practice is pricing per page or per day - known as perdiim and this is usually used by the UN and regional organizations.
