if clients maintains its same ip address as it roams between APs, it undergoes L2 roaming. also called Autonomous APs, a client roamsby moving its associations from one Ap to another. Autonomous roaming occurs only @ L2

while

if a client roams between APs located in different subnet, it undergoes L3 roaming, also referred to as LAPs. itmoves from WLC-WLC, according to AP-WLC binding. LAPs support both L2/L3 roaming.
