MPLS itself is a protocol which is used for high-performance telecommunications data carrying and it sends the data packet to the next hop associated with short path labeled and avoid complex lookups in the routing table and long network addresses. The labeled nodes recognize path(virtual links) between distant nodes rather than endpoints. MPLS encapsulates the packets of other network protocols, therefore, it is said multi-protocol.
