With a carburetor, it was essential to let the car idle for minutes before driving it in order to make sure the engine would run properly. But with modern cars, it's not the engine itself that needs to be warmed up when it's cold outside.
Fluids get thicker when it is cold, so to lubricate properly they need 60 to 120 seconds of the engine running. If we didn't let the engine warm up before driving , may be cutting engine's life short. So its always better the warm up the engine before driving
In Brazil, I driving car, truck and Bus
it is better to warm up vehicle before driving because of heating of engine oil make it to circulate and make vehicle running smoother & also smoke from the silencer not come.
It is normal to warm up car before driving, if samething is wrong you can see, than you can find solution before driving.
The Engine should be warmed up before driving because the alloys of the engine parts are made of different materials, therefore the engine should reach its operating temperature, the heat factors of all the materials of the engine parts will be equal at this temperature which also will give a high output.
In addition of leaving the engine runing for a while will increase the combustion chamber temperature which will enhance the combustion
Rising the temperature of the engine also will rise the temperature of the engine oil which will provide a very good lubrication.
Generaly, Modern cars designed to run directly, without warming up. especially on normal or hot weathers.
Engines have an optimal operating temperature. When the engine is cold, the lubrication is poor.Leaving the engine run idle for a few minutes so the engine reaches a temperature in which lubrication is good is a smart thing to do.
When the engine is cold, the lubrication is poor as the oil is needed to lubricate many part of the engine.
This means that there is more friction between moving parts, and greater deterioration of the cylinder walls and piston among others…
It depend on vehicle type and weather. Therefore, we have to follow manufacturer instruction.
But, Generaly, Modern cars designed to run directly, without warming up. especially on normal or hot weathers.
Untill the engine reaches its working temperature we cant get the high out put performance from the engine.
Engines are designed to run at optimum operating temperatures. Being cold is not optimum, and will cause accelerated wear.
To make engine performance better and because when you park it whole day the oil in the engine stop circulating so when you start the car the oil move all across the engine and soften the vehicle.
