Engineering projects are almost the same as any other project, the key problem faced in engineering and construction is procurement. Cost and quality are two competing objectives in all projects, but are much more visible in engineering projects, hence need to have a solid plan from the beginning.

Understand the cultural environment. It' different making project in Africa, GCC, South America, North of Europe etc. Although in theory one has the roadmap to implement an engeneering project, it's allways better to understand what surrounds us. Most companies tend to bring the HR needed to make developments seal them in compounds e take them to operations.

In other circumstances it's not possible to proceed this way: take for instance the case of implementing large surpermarket franchises, all the theory in world won't make native people work during "siesta", religious hollidays, heat, damp etc. So even if the engeneering project is a success the aftermath can be a disaster if the necessary precautions haven't been taken care of.
