This is a good question. BI, Analytics and Reporting is where we can see the application of AI. This will impact the way the BI tools are used. Advent of AI will create expert systems. BI tools will provide input to expert systems, which in turn will be used by decision makers.

In simple terms, AI is the technique where in the system acquires knowledge through its experience; i.e the way it is used and becomes an expert system. The type of knowledge/intelligence it acquires is nothing but the pattern of usage and the underlying data and the knowledge engine.

BI (Business Intelligence) is analysis of underlying business data to derive knowledge of business from different perspective (dimensions) that helps to take decision. This can be achieved by the knowledge engine of the system using AI tools and techniques. Thus the system can become more intelligent and expert to provide decision options, while doing the analysis by itself.

For example,

A) Based on the analysis of maintenance data of an enterprise asset, the system can flag the risk level of using the asset and prepare its replacement plan and submit to management along with the analysis report.

B)Based on the sales data and inventory, system can identify fast moving products in different areas and initiate the procurement process or stock transfers between warehouse or a notification to initiate these activities along with sales and stock analysis report.

The biggest advantage is that the capability of the machine is not limited to the number of parameters to be analysed and its complexity, which can be a limiting factor for normal human beings. When the number of parameters to analyse grows, the complexity of analysis also increases, which might become difficult for normal human beings to handle. This is not the limiting factor for machines.

However, building intelligent systems which can analyse data intelligently in a specific domain is a challenge.

Artificial Intelligence will impact BI Tools.. But BI will never be finished OR ENDED because what a human can do machince can never do..The reporting or analytics done by a machine is limited..We cant compare it to Analytics & Reporting done by Human.

Invention of AI really simplifies the human intervention. Some critical and continous monitoring by human people is very tuff and cant asure the efficiency. But with the help of AI, we can make 100% efficient continous intervention/ monitoring systems. This also helps us in predicting the decision making process with the help of continously collected reports and existing analytics model.

In Analytics and reporting, automation is already being applied in order to continually apply process to available data for trend observation. I believe with the advent of AI and machine learning, analysis and reporting will become more proactive to a certain degree. AI can be applied alongwith automation such that flags or anomalies are identified and trigger changes in reporting.
