it's the future itself even if you are using a desktop or mobile app it could communicate with web api for some reason
I think web is very versatile field in the IT, In the future it is going more & more usefull for people & making life easy such as E-commerce through which we can get our desired things at our home, Business to business trade is also more easy & time saving. So in conclusion i thhink their would be more advances & changes in the web development & have drastic demend of the field too.
