It is important to keep the balance between both, this isn't to say hard workers aren't smart and smart workers don't work hard, but let's for argument's sake assume some people work harder while others work smarter. You want to put hard workers in your front lines, while smart ones closet to your management. Why? Hard workers are good at taking orders, they do what you tell them without question, the clearer your requirements of them the more value you they will give you. Smart workers by definition are more intelligent, they are opinionated and may offer you greater values if you listen to them, putting them as supervisors, team leaders and other managerial positions will let them shine, a little bit of guidance is usually enough to manage them. Just incentivize them based on results not performance in order to get the most value and to keep them in check. Remember, Hard workers follow orders while Smart workers provide results.

For sure smarter workers are better but you should also have a hard workers.

Every type of them has its own method which suites different types of customers.

Balance is important in every plan and its implementation.

Hard Work is not a key of success because a daily labor also does a hard work; it doesn't mean that he is a successful person. Always do smart work rather than hard work because it is a key to success. Actually smart work is the total package of Planning , Tools, Labor, with less physical effort.

Both Smart Worker and Hard worker, depents upon situation, we need to perform both roles. In initial stages in an new atmosphere it is dificult to perform as smart worker, for a good performer he or she  definitely will find a smart worker role.

Smart works. While it is valuable to have hard working employees, if they do not manage their time well, prioritise, usilise tools available and leverage available opportunities, you will never reach your desired outcomes.
