Following his parents would mean that he will study engineering.  Assuming he can do well, he can fulfill his parents' wish and become an engineering professor.  He will teach, and also put his knowledge into practice as a side job, maybe as a consultant or lead his own start up.  That way he is an engineer too.

With the blessing of his parents and some hard work, may he be successful and make everybody happy.

The boy shall choose the field in which he is good and in the stream where he has the interest in and confident that he can do well in the same for his career.

HE SHOULD FOLLOW HIS AIM AND BECOME AN ENGINEER. LATER HE CAN DECIDE WHAT PROFESSION TO CHOOSE, BECAUSE CHASING SOMETHING ELSE THAN YOUR EXPERTISE / CHOICE, WOULDNT GIVE ANY POSITIVE RESULTS ON HIS AND THE ORGANIZATIONS FUTURE

At the end of the day, it's the boy who will work, not the parents. If he doesn't choose something that he is passionate about, then he will grow bored and possibly not continue with that job.

Though in this case, thankfully for the boy, there is a middle ground.

Becoming an engineer and then getting a PhD will allow him to not only work as an engineer, but qualify him to become a Professor. There are many university professors who teach classes on the side of having their own careers, This actually helps with his teaching because he will have the experience and knowledge that can help his students.
