They are far different.

Consumer (B2C) generally sells to the end user where B2B may sell to the end user, a channel parter, or a business who will do something to the product before selling it to the end user.  So, the needs of the buyer are dramatically different.

Communication Methods and Sales Channels: B2B and B2C leverage different sales and media channels -- often B2C is trying to explain the need for a product and thus leverage mass marketing.  Often B2B customers already know the product, or leverage a direct sales force (inside or outside) to contact the customer directly, enalbing a much richer conversation.  Generally, B2C must leverage far more media options than B2B.

Pricing: Often a B2B product may be priced in a one-off, using bid method, or be based on volume.  While a B2C price is generally the same for any user.  One exceptions is B2C may adjust pricing with loyalty programs.

Consumer marketing sells products to individual consumers and households who purchase for their own consumption. The B2B market; however, is composed of a succession of companies acquiring goods and services for the production of other products and services that are sold, rented or supplied to other companies. This creates a highly complex and continuous sequence of businesses buying from other businesses.

Yes, it is different because consumer marketing needs more media channels to promote the product to have effective reach while marketing to businesses needs presentable people with the necessary information about the said product to convince the concerned people.
